Fjordhotel Augustenborg

This hotel seems to focus on functions like weddings and birthdays. Its dining rooms are huge compared with the size of the hotel, and the events business seems to do very well. For guests, the place is very clean and the rooms are spacious, though basic by modern standards. They have what you need, including a TV, kettle, and desk. With a fjord-facing room, ideally one with a terrace, it's a brilliant location.

The bathroom feels enormous, with plenty of space to move around, and the TV channels are reasonably good. The room itself is fairly small, though, and there's not enough room for two suitcases. It'll do. The slamming doors are very annoying. You can hear guests coming and going and opening and closing them.

I was visiting Augustenborg outside the main season for work, and Augustenborg Fjordhotel was a nice place to stay. The staff were kind and helpful, and the rooms were okay. The old building doesn't insulate sound very well, but I guess that's part of its charm 😁.

The hotel was short on staff, with just one waitress and one cook handling food and drinks, but they did a fantastic job and kept smiling. They served a party of 15 for a diamond anniversary, even though most of the business had closed for winter. There was a lovely afternoon tea with a lavish layer cake, then three evening meal options. Portions were generous and tasty, served in a proper traditional way, and they even made special mixed drinks. It's a cosy little spot right by the Augustenborg marina, easy to reach by car, on one of Denmark's beautiful fjord coastlines. I can recommend it.
