Hotel 6400

Breakfast was really good, and it had what you needed. We ate dinner at the main hotel, Benniksgaard. The only staff member we saw was the janitor, who was exceptionally nice and helpful when we needed something. There wasn’t much staff around, and everything from check-in through checkout was handled by phone. That might feel a bit daunting to some, but it went smoothly for us. It’s a nice small hotel, and I’d easily recommend it if you’re not looking for a fancy, high-tech place. If you are, this isn’t the one. Otherwise, go ahead and book.

The beach is about a 10-minute walk away, and you can easily get around the surrounding area by bike or car. It’s not quite central in Sonderburg. The hotel was clean, with nicely furnished rooms and friendly staff. My one criticism is how Covid-19 was handled. The breakfast restaurant wasn’t well ventilated, it was hard to keep distance, especially at the buffet, and there was no mask requirement in Denmark.

For 160€ a night, this is a dirty youth-hostel-style room. Basic rooms are fine, but this place is filthy. The bathroom heater is one example. Communication was the worst part. I emailed to get answers and heard nothing back.

We had room 101 for four nights, though the description said double bed and we got two separate beds in a handicap-friendly room. The window looked straight at a blank wall about a meter away, with trash cans beside it, like the view from room 102. There was no one at reception. Our chat request got no answer, and phone support said we could change rooms the next day and that they’d call. They never did. The next day we were told we could move for just one night, then had to return to 101. Wow. We left a day early and complained through booking.com. Hotel 6400 gave no refund and no apology. The rooms did seem clean, and there was free coffee and a chillout room. Maybe it’s okay if you get a room other than 101 or possibly 102, but don’t count on any service. It’s kind of expensive, too. By the way, my review was removed at one point. Hotel6400 didn’t comment or clarify, just seemed to try to get it deleted. Why am I surprised? I wondered if one star was too harsh. Not anymore, it’s well deserved.
