Motel Europa

The staff were really kind, and both meals were good: dinner was simple but tasty, and breakfast was included in the price. The rooms were clean and nice, with dated decor that was otherwise fine. A good option if you want somewhere inexpensive but decent.

The motel worked out really well for our trip. It's just off the motorway, handy if you're traveling by ferry to or from Norway or Iceland, or going to Aalborg. The people running the place were very nice and spoke English. There isn't a 24-hour reception, so make sure to check in before closing, which was 23:00 during our visit. Breakfast started at 7 on weekdays and 8 on Sunday, and it was included in the room price. They also have a restaurant for dinner. It's rated one star, which surprised me given the large rooms, comfortable soft bed, and all the essentials. The bathroom was cramped and had a broken shower stand, but it still did the job, with a toilet, sink, and shower.

The room had a sewer smell as soon as we walked in, and the place seemed poorly maintained. The bed was unbelievably soft, like lying in a hole, and the duvet was far too warm for me to use. Breakfast was included, but the restaurant couldn't open because of COVID-19, which is fair enough. Still, they could easily have given guests a bag with a bun and a bottle of water, so we wouldn't have had to pay for breakfast twice.

The area was quiet and peaceful, with nice surroundings for a walk or run. The rooms felt dated and had that old smell, but they were perfectly all right for one night. There were lots of flies buzzing around the breakfast buffet.
