I especially enjoyed the sauna and swimming pool, and my apartment was pleasantly furnished with a full kitchen, including a small oven and a fridge. The beds are made by turning the couches into beds, and sheets and towels cost extra to rent from the hotel. Guests staying for weeks traditionally bring their own. Tannishus has been part of Danish seaside holidays for a long time. Hildur Bang opened it on June 26, 1896, as Vesterhavsbadet Tannishus. Its design took inspiration from Nørre Elkjær, her father's 16th-century manor house. The first building had 13 rooms and a dining room for about 40 to 50 guests, and it was among the early Danish seaside hotels. In January 1921, Ingeborg Skaun bought the hotel and ran it for 42 years. She added the Junkerfløj wing and a tennis court in 1935. Back then, wealthy guests from Copenhagen were met by carriage or car at the station in nearby Sindal, and many returned for weeks each year under strict traditions. Later additions and updates were kept within the original building footprints to protect the historic feel. It opened 130 years ago, a milestone due to be celebrated in July 2025.
