I especially enjoyed the sauna and swimming pool, and my apartment was pleasantly furnished with a full kitchen, including a small oven and a fridge. The beds are made by turning the couches into beds, and sheets and towels cost extra to rent from the hotel. Guests staying for weeks traditionally bring their own. Tannishus has been part of Danish seaside holidays for a long time. Hildur Bang opened it on June 26, 1896, as Vesterhavsbadet Tannishus. Its design took inspiration from Nørre Elkjær, her father's 16th-century manor house. The first building had 13 rooms and a dining room for about 40 to 50 guests, and it was among the early Danish seaside hotels. In January 1921, Ingeborg Skaun bought the hotel and ran it for 42 years. She added the Junkerfløj wing and a tennis court in 1935. Back then, wealthy guests from Copenhagen were met by carriage or car at the station in nearby Sindal, and many returned for weeks each year under strict traditions. Later additions and updates were kept within the original building footprints to protect the historic feel. It opened 130 years ago, a milestone due to be celebrated in July 2025.

The flat and facilities make a good base for a family break, with extra ways to keep the children busy. But I was sorry to see cars driving on the beach. I don't remember that from 10 years ago, and they spoil the natural scenery. With small children, it's hard to relax when drivers don't seem to care. The beach needs a larger parking area. Please stop letting cars ruin Danish beaches.

We were close enough to walk to the beach, which was great. The room was small and not especially clean, though. Some of the dishes looked unwashed, and the bathroom needed a better scrub. It worked perfectly for our one night before taking the boat to norway, but I wouldn't want to stay longer.

Getting to the ferry the next morning was easy because this place isn't far away. Still, I was furious with the stay. We arrived in the middle of the night, me on my own with two small children, expecting ready-made beds where I could put them straight to sleep. Instead, there were only sofa beds, and we had to bring our own towels and linens. I had brought linens, and at least there was toilet paper and soap, unlike at the cabin we'd come from, but this wasn't how I expected my last night in Denmask to go. If the listing or even the confirmation email had explained the bedding situation, I might not have been so upset. This is NOT a hotel in the way I expected one to be. It was horrible, I would never return, and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

The location is fantastic, though the cars people bring onto the beach take away from the peace. That's not the hotel's fault. The place is older but clearly maintained, and it has a good range of facilities. For the quality and location, the price compares well with other options.
