Hotel Kong Valdemar

The owner was very friendly, warm and welcoming, and I give him credit for that. The hotel itself feels well past its time, like the 60s. There were leak marks on our wall, the floors creaked with every step, and we could hear someone using the toilet three rooms away. We paid just shy of 1000 kronen for one night, which is simply not worth it, even if the price weren't such an issue. The bathroom was the worst part. It's old and rusty, the towels were dirty and smelled like they'd been left there a while, and the air exhaust didn't work. The whole room smelled like a swamp, with black mold growing between the tiles and around the shower cabin. There also seem to be lots of foreign workmen staying there. They all park their vans in the lot, then leave around ~05:00, talking loudly and making quite a bit of noise. Be ready for an early start. Breakfast is available, at least, if you're trying to get as much as you can out of the stay. We had no one at the desk when we went to return the keys, so we couldn't give this feedback in person. I hope the owner gets the chance to turn it into a nice, modern hotel, because you can tell he's passionate about his work. As it is, I can't recommend staying here.

I was stopping overnight on my way to Sweden and got a very nice surprise. The hotel is quite close to the motorway, about 5 or 6 km away. Even though I arrived very late, at 9 PM, the man at the desk was kind. The room was spacious enough, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom and shower were okay. Breakfast was included in the morning, all at a very attractive price. I enjoyed my stay 😊

The castle ruin is right across the way, so you're right in the middle of the history. The reception was super nice, with big smiles all around. The basic double room was absolutely worth its very affordable price, and there was a good selection at breakfast.

The location is good, right in the middle of a historic town, and there are plenty of places to eat a short walk away. The restaurant was closed, though. The hotel looks as if it dates from the 1960s, and the decor and rooms feel outdated and in need of a 21st-century update. Breakfast was made by someone I can only describe as the maintenance man. There are tea and coffee facilities in the lobby, but nothing to drink in the room. The room standard was really low for the price.
