The noise from the venue immediately to the east is the serious downside here. It plays extremely loud music late into the night, and on one occasion it went on until 5 a.m. The owner says she can’t do anything about it and also considers it very anti-social. I moved to the room on the western side, farther from the venue, which reduced the noise. I’d suggest booking that specific room and bringing powerful earplugs. The guesthouse owner was very pleasant and helpful, and there’s good dining nearby. Martina’s local laundry service is also friendly and helpful, just a short walk away. The rooms are spacious, though the facilities aren’t what you’d find in a luxury hotel. The windows have shutters instead of glass, and the bathroom is separated from the bedrooms by saloon style half doors. That’s not really what this kind of guesthouse is about, and anyone looking for luxury hotels should look in a major town. The view north over the bay is excellent and spectacular at sunrise and sunset. You can watch terns, brown pellicans, and magnificant frigatebirds hunting, while local fisherman regularly wade into the see.

The verandah has amazing views, and you might get to see fregat birds and pelicanos fishing. Even without that luck, it’s one of the most beautiful places in the world. The upstairs rooms are large, breezy, and very clean, full of art and carefully maintained. It has a relaxed feel de luxe, with welcoming, lovely hosts. You can look after yourself here, and shops and good restaurants are just a short walk away.

There’s plenty of room and some nice amenities, with ocean breezes and fans instead of air conditioning. The beds all have mosquito netting, which helps since wet weather can bring mosquitoes. The Veranda View is a little rustic, and the north end of Dominica is wild and beautiful, though it’s not a beach destination that draws everyone. The view and location are hard to beat.

The hostess is charming, and you get an amazing view of the sea. The guest house feels just like the contemporary Caribbean place I’d pictured. It’s right in the village, with a good local restaurant and bars within walking distance.

The host was really friendly and helpful. It’s a gorgeous little place in Calibishie, with lovely views and comfortable rooms that are nicely furnished.
