My friends and I stayed at Hotel Yamir in Barahona, RD, January 4-6, 2026. After looking through the options, we found that Barahona has converted buildings instead of chain hotels, and Yamir seemed like the best choice. It's a fairly new hotel with parking, in a neighborhood near the main avenue. We appreciated how friendly everyone was, especially the owner and his wife. Our room had a TV, AC, a good bathroom, a nice bed and hot water. It was generally clean, though there were a few harmless black insects and a cobweb near the TV when we got it. I see that as a note for the owner about checking the details when rooms are handed over. There's no breakfast on site, but coffee is free, and breakfast can be ordered and delivered to the hotel. The area felt safe, though the residential neighborhood's bachata and merengue music was quite loud on the first night.

We liked it so much that we came back for another night during our road trip along the south of DR. We found the hotel in a random search, and I'm really glad we did. One of the owners answered the phone and guided us to the place. Our minivan fit comfortably in front. The woman who helped us was very kind and accommodating. There were four of us, each with a separate room. Mine was clean and comfortable, with strong AC, a good bed, a spacious bathroom and fantastic shower pressure. Breakfast can be ordered, and it arrived nice and early.

The staff are sweet and kind, and the bathrooms are big and nice. My room was on the small side but clean, with Netflix and free Wi-Fi. I was about to take a guagua by myself to Lago Enriquillo when they offered to arrange for me to join a family driving there. ♥️ The one downside was that breakfast wasn't available, even though the hotel description said it was included. I guess they weren't offering it in low season because there were too few guests. A really nice stay. I'll definitely come back if I visit Barahona again!
