The MT Hotel

A good value for one night before flying the next day. The room was large and the bed was comfortable, but the water was barely lukewarm and breakfast was average. The cafe and bar across the road, Cuban, was great.

My Apple Watch was stolen from my room. Management, please contact me so we can sort this out. I'm furious and will escalate it. Update: Two days after I posted this, they coincidentally messaged to say the cleaners had found the watch in the room after I left. I'm very organized and keep my things in one place. I searched the room thoroughly before leaving, and the room was cleaned daily. I don't trust them. Be careful with your belongings, and if you stay here, make sure you're in the room during cleaning.

The pool area was clean and had plenty of seating and loungers, with both shallow and deep sections for adults and children. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Spanish is the main language, though they understand basic English. There's also a local guide on site if you want to book day trips. It's a fantastic hotel for the price. We chose bed and breakfast because we like exploring locally, but an all-inclusive option is available too. The location is good, and you can use local buses, taxis, or tuk-tuks. A one-way trip to Bavaro beach and the attractions averages 5 local pesos.

The breakfast was the highlight: lots of sweet and savory choices, good baked goods, and a chef who made an excellent omelette. The hotel is a great deal for the price, and the rooms are nice, though very dark. They gave us only two towels for two people, and beyond the usual toiletries, you'll want to bring your own shampoo. You'd need a car or taxi to reach the beach, since the hotel isn't close to one. The guy at reception named "Chucho" was friendly, but I suggest avoiding him because he overcharges tourists for tours and taxi rides. For a meal, the nearby restaurant on the corner opposite the convenience store was very good.
