Hotel Restaurant Hamilton

Be careful using your card at this restaurant. It was the only place where I used my credit card in the Dominican Republic, and afterward my bank notified me of six charges: $25, $60, $200, and $600 among them. The bank covered the first two and called to check the other two. I spoke with the owner, who said they don’t do that at his restaurant and explained that the waitress brings the payment machine to the table. She had swiped my card, which is what would be needed to clone it. I felt he was calling me a liar. I had to cancel the card. Please be careful using yours here.

The pizzeria downstairs at hotel Hamilton makes fresh, homemade pizza that’s hot and delicioso. It came out quickly, and the staff were very friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and laid back. I’d go back.

For 60 USD a night, I expected better attention to the basics. I come from a cruising background, and the coffee situation was ridiculous: you had to ask for it, there were no refills, and a second cup cost extra. There was no water either, even from the bar. My shower head was clogged from day one and never fixed. The lighting was poor, with only one bedside lamp working, and the room smelled of smoke despite being clean. There’s no elevator, and my coffee arrived ten minutes after I’d finished breakfast. Hotels in Miami Beach are much better for that price.

My husband came in to work, since he works for the airlines, and asked about a room and internet. They said Wi-Fi was available, so he paid and went upstairs, but he couldn’t get connected. When he checked again, they still said the internet was working and suggested it might be his phone. It’s a new phone, and he’s had no trouble connecting to Wi-Fi in DR. He canceled the room and asked for a refund, but Alex at the front desk refused, saying the owner wasn’t there. When my husband asked him to call the owner, he said no. It was awful service. Why refuse a refund when the internet doesn’t work? People, be careful where you stay. I don’t recommend this place. They’ll keep your money.
