Frogs sang us to sleep, and the garden was lovely, full of tropical flowering plants and paths between the buildings. The layout is gorgeous, with a beautiful pool and a location right by a small river. There are updated houses in different sizes, from one to three rooms for rent, and some have mini kitchens. The on-site restaurant serves good food, including local and German dishes. I believe it is owned by Germans who came for the many water sports and fell in love with the DR. Be warned, you may not want to leave either. The beach is about a mile away, there's a grocery store half a mile away, and kitesurfing is popular. This is a hostel with good prices, so the air conditioning only runs in the evening. Most Dominicans live without AC, and you'll probably be out during the day anyway. When someone in our group got sick, housekeeping was told and turned on the AC. For safety in the DR, use bottled water even when brushing your teeth. It was a truly inexpensive week in paradise. I took lots of pictures of our restaurant food and the flowers, though I wasn't thinking about writing a review at the time. Now it's snowing where I live in March, so remembering the stay helps keep me warm.

The manager, Jimmy, was fantastic and always around to help. The place is rustic, so it won't suit someone who needs air conditioning or has high expectations. I always felt safe walking around, day or night. It's a great affordable hostel in Cabarete, with comfortable rooms right on the water. My room opened onto the ocean, and with a few candles it was the most romantic place I've ever stayed. It felt almost like having a private beach. A 25-50 peso motoconcho ride gets you to the good restaurants, bars, popular beaches, and kiting spots. Across the street there's a convenience store open late, plus a little outdoor bar with a pool table, cheap drinks, and great homemade food. Locals hang out there, and there's always a motoconcho driver around. There's also a grocery store within walking distance and a guy selling empanadas.

I'm the neighbor, and the new Beach "Hostel" sits right on what I think is the most beautiful beach in the DR. The beach changes its face every day, a dream.

The staff are extremely friendly and the food is delicious. Everything was great, though there were too many dogs in the pool area.
