The show they put on each day was pretty cool, and I thought the resort itself was decent. The food wasn't bad, and the music in the 'night club' was good. But service felt like it depended on tips. The drinks were meant to be included, yet the people who tipped best seemed to get theirs faster. I tip, but don't think I should have to pay $3-5 for included drinks. It was the same with the waitstaff, even when you just wanted a glass of water. I felt everyone expected money in exchange for any information they gave. At check-out, my girlfriend handled the paperwork while I dealt with the cab. On the way to the airport, I found out they'd charged us $100 for calls from our room. I know we hadn't used the phone, but she paid it anyway. That was ridiculous and unfair, and I was incensed. This was my first resort ever, and I was excited. I went with my girlfriend for President's Day weekend about three years ago. I'm Dominican, and my mother was already in the Capital (Santo Domingo), so I was ready to host her for Dominican Mother's Day too. When we arrived, the front desk staff greeted us but weren't very friendly, maybe because it was evening. The sad thing is, I stayed at a resort in Cancun the next year and had a completely different experience. Nobody there made me feel I needed to tip for directions or to ask the time.

We went for 10 days as a family, and there's always something to do. We liked relaxing by the pool with margaritas or walking outside the resort. Kids may love the scuba diving; there's a little shack for it, the tutors are amazing, and there's a small test at the end to get certified. I also enjoyed the night walks in the pitch dark, with it still 30°C. My father uses a wheelchair, and we'd booked a handicap room. The first one we were given was the opposite of that: old, falling apart, below average in size, and the wheelchair couldn't fit into the bathroom. We called the front desk, and they found us another room. It was beautiful, with a huge nearly floor-to-ceiling window and walls about 12 feet high, but the bathroom was the same size as the previous room, and the view was just a wall. If you go, I'd recommend forgetting the view and getting a room farther from the beach. We found those were the best rooms. The food wasn't anything special, though it wasn't bad. There are French and Dominican specialty restaurants, but my family and I preferred the buffet. The choices were slim, and the food wasn't the best. Some other reviews said the staff were garbage. I think they forget the staff weren't raised the same way as them. The staff came from across the world, and what's normal there could be frowned on here. Of course, there were nicer staff who treated you amazingly, and some 'sour' ones.

The water wasn't too rough the day I was there, and I liked seeing local people enjoying the beach alongside tourists. It's a really nice sandy beach with plenty of places to sit, as long as you're eating or drinking at a nearby establishment.

It's decent overall, but I ran into two minor downsides. Internet costs $10 per day, and they only give you one login. There were power outages too. I experienced one while asleep, and my wife told me there were two more. It wasn't a big deal to me, but I wanted to mention it.

The customer service was horrible and people were very rude. I got a bad shock from the 220V iron in the room because the outlet wasn't grounded. We ate only at the hotel and got sick from the food. The hotel is in disrepair. I've been to the D.R. more than 50 times, and people are normally very nice, but not at this hotel.
