Afreeka Beach Hostel & Music Bar

The bed bugs and roaches made this stay awful. I woke up with a roach crawling over me, and it ran into a hole in the mattress. The mattresses were stained all over, like they’d been picked up from the side of the road. Even the cleaning and security staff confirmed they’d seen bed bugs (chincha) and roaches everywhere. Whoever cleaned the apartment must have known about it. I was going to keep my comments on Airbnb, where this hotel is also listed, but they wanted to lie about what happened there. Good thing Google lets you post photos. You can lie with words, but photos don’t lie, my friend. Stay away. These people are criminals.

The location, garden, and general atmosphere were lovely, and the staff were super friendly. If you’re laid-back, it’s a nice place to stay, with good air conditioning and a safe, the essentials. The rooms are basic, though, especially the bathroom. There’s a kitchen sink and a broken workbench, but the rest of the kitchen is missing. The shower is basically a painted floor. Friendly staff deserve more stars ;)

The family room was a good size, and the beach, restaurants, and bars were all close by.

We felt like family as Canadians visiting Vincent @ Afreeka. He made our few hours of kitesurfing lessons safe and really enjoyable, and we’re already looking forward to going back. Vincent is from Kiteworld and offers all sorts of unique tours and experiences. We felt safe and well fed at some of the events. Highly recommend!
