Hotel Residence Marilar

We stayed for a week in December 2025 and walked everywhere, including into town several times. The hotel is across the street from Playa Las Ballenas in Las Terrenas, a terrific location. The property could use some updates, but our two-bedroom apartment met our needs, even though we didn’t cook in the kitchen.

The bathrooms were dirty, with rust all over the showerheads, and most of the stove burners were broken when we tried to make breakfast. The AC also wasn’t working in one bedroom or in the living room. When we asked someone to check, they laughed and insisted it worked, which made it feel like they didn’t care. We tried to make the best of it at the beach, but for what we paid, we didn’t get the facilities we’d been promised. We spoke politely to the owner, who you’ll recognize when you see him, and asked if we could leave instead of staying another night because of the AC and room condition. He said no and kept claiming the AC worked. My uncle said we wouldn’t return, and the owner said he didn’t care because people always come there. That seems to be why they don’t fix problems. On checkout day, the toilets had stopped flushing too. If you’re visiting the Terrenas, avoid this place.

We had a wonderful response from the staff, and the place was clean and comfortable. The terrace or balcony facing the beach was incredible, and Las Ballenas is right there, with restaurants and beach clubs within walking distance. Hot water was inconsistent at times, but it wasn’t a deal breaker.

We had such a good time here in July, my husband, our three-year-old daughter, and me. It was exactly what we wanted, and my husband came home talking about moving to Las Terrenas. We loved the hotel, the service, and the people. It’s a great place for families, and Jenny at the front desk is the best. We recommend it and will definitely be back.
