The resort is compact, which made it easy to get around, and most restaurants are grouped together, so if one is full you can try another nearby. The app was helpful, and there were plenty of loungers by both the beach and pool. We liked having a lively pool with a bar as well as a quieter one. The transfer was good, though the drive takes 1-1.5 hours depending on the time of day. It’s a beautiful, thoughtfully designed new resort, less developed around it than Bavaro. Rooms were quiet, comfortable, and very clean. Food choices were great, and the drinks were well mixed with lots of premium options. We were there in January, and the Atlantic water was warm but not very calm that week.

I’ve traveled a lot for work and leisure, and I’ve never seen such a gap between a resort’s marketing photos and the actual stay. For a smooth, high-end trip, I’d look elsewhere. The most frustrating part was housekeeping. This was the third time I came back late in the afternoon to find my room untouched. At this price, guests shouldn’t have to track down staff for basic room care. Communication was also a struggle when dealing with room problems or dietary restrictions. Most staff didn’t speak English, and alongside the three days of missed housekeeping I experienced, that made the stay extremely frustrating. Meals could mean waiting up to 90 minutes for a table, and the food was basically buffet quality plated to look fancy. Buffet labels often didn’t match the food, like a “Lemon Cake” sign next to chocolate desserts. That’s a serious concern for guests with allergies or dietary restrictions. The evening shows felt low-budget and amateur. Performers struggled to hit the notes, making the shows cringe inducing instead of relaxing.

Our preferred oceanfront room had a spectacular view, and Javier was the best butler we’ve ever had. The spa was great too, with the best massage I’ve ever had. We’ve stayed five nights and leave in the morning. This resort is amazing, and the staff have gone above and beyond to make everything perfect. Don’t let negative posts put you off. For a fun, relaxing all-inclusive where you’re pampered from the moment you arrive, it’s a great choice.

Brenda, the entertainment coordinator, brought great energy to the activities and made them engaging without going over the top. She deserves a standing ovation. We spent four nights at Secrets Playa Esmeralda, and everything exceeded our expectations. From the start, the staff made us feel welcome, and everyone was friendly, attentive, and seemed to enjoy making guests feel special. The rooms were spacious, beautiful, and spotless. The resort’s attention to detail, relaxing atmosphere, and top-notch service made the whole getaway feel luxurious. We couldn’t have asked for a better short escape and would absolutely return. Five stars without hesitation.
