Chic Hotel Montecristi

For the price, this place is a good option if you mainly need somewhere to sleep. The first-floor rooms are cheaper and have no luxuries like air conditioning or heated water, but they’re fine for sleeping. The more expensive second-floor rooms are larger and have both. It’s not a hotel for anyone after luxury, but it’s good value.

The restaurant attached to the hotel served tasty local food, and I often stopped by its inexpensive little ice cream shop when I lived in Monte Cristi. The location is right in the middle of town, with everything easy to reach and LILO supermarket about a five-minute walk away. It’s a nice place if you want to be immersed in the local culture. I stayed four days with my parents when they came to visit. The staff were very friendly, patient with my broken Spanish, and quick to help with our requests, including finding a taxi. The rooms are small but comfortable. Hot water was there most of the time, though you can’t count on it always being available. At $25 a night, we felt we got more than we paid for. A lovely little place.

The bed was really comfortable, though the rooms were quite a bit smaller than they looked in the photos. They’re very basic, but clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. For 1700rd if you just show up, I thought it was worth it. They have lots of rooms and seemed to have availability, so I’d recommend doing that. The A/C is controlled by a switch beside the bed, with only on and off. Ours was set at 16, which was too cold, so it was either chilly or warm. It didn’t bother us much, and we could have asked the staff to raise the temperature. When the TV cable broke, they replaced it promptly. D'Edith next door was very good, one of our best meals in a long time. The location is handy for The malecon and El Morro de Mo te Cristi, and Google Maps made getting around town easy.

The people here treated us with a lot of respect, and the owner, Mr. Chicho, is such a great guy. Chic Hotel has comfortable, clean rooms and a nice restaurant serving all kinds of local dishes. Just wonderful.
