We had breakfast and dinner there each day, and the meals were superb, made by the master chef. The hotel has five rooms upstairs and two larger apartments downstairs, with a dining room and pool visible from the lobby. It’s a charming, small place in a residential neighborhood, set back from the main highway so traffic noise isn’t an issue. You go up a few steps to reach the lobby. The upstairs rooms are comfortable and nicely appointed, with king beds, two-door closets with safes, and good bathrooms with showers. The digital TV worked well, Wi-Fi was strong, and security was very good. I also saw one of the larger apartments, which was very nice: it had a full-size fridge, complete kitchen, dining room, comfortable living room, and a master bedroom with a king bed and bathroom. Both the dining room and bedroom opened onto the pool. If you want small, cozy, modern lodging, this could be a good fit. I recommend it.

The owners made us feel at home, and hosting seems to come naturally to them. My mom and I stayed at Gaia after a resort, and we didn’t feel we’d given anything up. In some ways, I preferred it. Our room was clean and spacious, and breakfast was delicious. The location is great, close to a Jumbo and historic Puerto Plata, with easy beach access. The gated community felt comfortable and safe. Don’t assume every DR street is loud, in this neighborhood we heard only birds. I’ll stay here again when I visit Puerto Plata.

Gaia residence feels more like a guest house than a hotel. It’s modern, new, clean, and very nice, with a small pool and free on-site parking. The access-controlled residential neighborhood felt safe. We had a pleasant little balcony overlooking the pool, and the room itself was great, with good cable TV, a safe, a large comfortable bed, and a modern bathroom. Breakfast was very good and cooked to order. Since it’s a small, customized guesthouse, it’s best to order from the menu the night before.

Breakfast was AMAZING, and the hosts were so welcoming. The room was spacious, modern, and very clean, with hot water, strong Wi-Fi, and really good AC. There’s a nice pool, and the neighborhood felt very safe. Small note: no mosquito nets.

Gaia feels like a lovely little escape right in the city. The couple hosting it clearly care a lot about giving great service. I'd happily recommend staying here in Puerto Plata.
