Skylight Suites Restaurant Bar

We stopped in for lunch and loved the view. There was hardly anyone there, so at first we wondered if the place had closed, but it made lunch feel like we'd booked the whole restaurant. The food was delicious and service was great.

The dishes looked nicely presented, though several things were unavailable, including lobster. We understood that lobster was out of season. The confusing part came with the bill: we asked about a line item, and our server said she didn't know what it was. When we suggested it was a tip, she said no, it was tax. The restaurant later told me the same thing after I asked, even though we'd also left a generous cash tip. We wanted help understanding how tax and tips work in different countries. Now we know, but that mix-up is why we lowered our rating.

We found this place by chance and plan to come back next time we're on this side of the island. Juan gave us A+ service, and his personality was infectious. I had the Dominican lobster, grilled and seasoned perfectly. The chef has to be the best on the island, bar none. If you're within 50 miles of Puerta Plata, make this a stop.

This place has a good location, but we would have been better off eating at the resort. Service was really slow, and the food wasn't that good. Several of us ordered medium rare steak, and every one came well done. The Mahi Mahi was alright, just nothing special.
