The grounds are beautiful and so clean, and the main buffet had good food with plenty of variety. Serindipity also had a great buffet at breakfast and lunch. Jeffery drove us between The Level and the main lobby, and he was so nice and funny. He always held the door for me, lol. Deiby at the bar by the beach, Cathea, was always smiling and in a good mood. They’re all amazing and friendly. This was our second stay at The Level, and we’ll be back for a third. Can’t wait 🥰🥰

On-site dining requires reservations, except for the buffets. The Level staff failed to make the reservation we’d discussed, even after taking another 30 minutes at 9 am to book it. We couldn’t make advance reservations at check-in. The property credit terms were also misleading. Staff explained that only $20 could be applied to any one item, so even with a $150 credit toward a $100 massage, we’d still be $80 out of pocket. Check-in took more than an hour and was chaotic, which was a bad start to the vacation. Other guests seemed frustrated too. An elderly man was having a heated discussion with the manager.

The resort looks gorgeous in photos, with green grounds, a shiny reception area, mangroves, boho beds, and peacocks. Your Instagram followers may be jealous, but looks don’t guarantee comfort or a carefree holiday. We stayed at the Level Melia Caribe Beach in early January 2026, and I don’t recommend it. The sunbed situation was the biggest problem. There aren’t enough at the beach or main pool, and after 7:30 am they’re gone. People reserve them overnight and take other people’s spots, leaving you on towels on wet sand or grass. Towels are a problem too: at 9 am we were told there were none and nobody knew when they’d return. The Level lounge wasn’t helpful and couldn’t explain basic things or fix simple problems. Late checkout was a mess, and reception was useless. The hotel seemed understaffed, with dirty tables, queues everywhere, and a huge line for the main restaurant. Staff looked tired and uninterested, and sometimes were rude. I was also put off by the reviews: many praised concierges only, and staff ask guests to mention them, so a lot of the feedback didn’t seem objective or relevant. Drinks and food kept running out, including mojitos and sparkling water. The sparkling wine was awful, the cocktails were sugary, and some bottles, like vermouth, seemed to be there just for show. The small Level private restaurant was overcrowded, served the same food every day, including yesterday’s dishes again, and didn’t restock when food ran out. There was a garbage smell around the resort, especially by the Level pool. The music playlist had the same five songs on repeat all day. It’s a small thing, but it drove me mad. There was almost no animation, the schedule was unclear, and the shows were average. Rooms were okay, but loud near reception, with tacky details, old stuff, and smelly pillowcases. There are better hotels for this money. If queues, stress, and no sunbeds don’t bother you, give it a try. At least the photos will look great.

The staff were extremely kind, and the entertainment was great, especially aquagym and gym classes. Rooms were huge and always clean, with a wonderful pool and beach. The restaurants were very good too. The hotel is simply amazing.

The good parts were the comfortable, roomy bedroom, working air conditioning, and the clean, peaceful pool area. The complex is lovely, and the sauna, steam rooms, and hot hydrotherapy pool were nice too. Quimera had tasty food and good service, and it was right by the beach and pool for The Level guests. Gilberto had even booked the dinner we wanted before we asked him. Later, when my partner had a fever, The Level lobby arranged medicine through the pharmacy on WhatsApp, and Gilberto quickly sent me the number when I asked about diarrhea medicine. I was glad I checked, since I’d first been told I had to go to the main lobby and wait for a golf cart to call the pharmacy. There were plenty of problems, though. They couldn’t find our reservation on arrival, and the Quimera booking went missing too. Dinner took a long time, and we heard other guests had the same reservation issue. The buffet at serendipia was poor. I suspect I got terrible diarrhea from eating there, and I still wasn’t recovered more than 24 hours after breakfast. Service was slow, my coffee and milk arrived far apart and had gone cold, and I had to get the salt myself. The food was mediocre and the fruit and juices were especially bad. The beach was covered in seaweed, so we couldn’t swim there during our stay. When we lay on a beach bed, a staff member said it cost USD 45 a day and didn’t explain that it came with fruit and champagne. We only learned that at the lobby. The spa jacuzzi was cold, and my partner and I couldn’t use the sauna or steam room together. Housekeeping and minibar restocking need more attention, and it was incredibly hard to reach The Level reception by phone. On my last day I woke at 4:45 a.m. with severe diarrhea, feeling weak and scared while taking medicine, with a long-haul flight that night ahead of me.
