The staff are amazing and will do their best to handle individual needs and requests. There's 24-hour security, and the service is exceptional. That makes up for everything else.

The room change came with an extra charge, presented as an upgrade, even though the first room was in such poor shape. The replacement had the same maintenance and cleanliness problems. I felt made to pay more for conditions that were already appalling. The bathroom was filthy, the sink was dirty, the toilet didn't work properly, and leaks left water pooled on the floor. The towels were old, ripped, and full of holes, and the linens were in poor condition too. In the room, exposed electrical wires and a badly patched door with a faulty lock made me feel unsafe. Golden House Hotel & Restaurant seemed badly managed and in serious disrepair from the moment I arrived. This was one of my worst hotel stays in the Dominican Republic. The management doesn't seem to care about guests' wellbeing or safety. I urge people to look elsewhere. This place is a nightmare and an embarrassment to hospitality.

Most of the staff are extremely nice, and the halls are always being cleaned, so the hotel smells clean. Breakfast is pretty good too. But the water situation made this a place I wouldn't stay at again. Whenever they filled the pool, which happened every day we were there, there wasn't enough water to shower or even wash our hands. Even when it came back, the flow was minimal. The morning and afternoon front desk woman was the exception to the otherwise nice staff, and she was rude when we called about it. Maintenance was promised yesterday but never came. The pool water had no bleach, so I wasn't sure how clean or safe it was, and the deck floor was dangerous. Paint on the beds rubbed off onto clothes and pillowcases. There's no hair dryer or iron, so don't count on having those. I wouldn't bring kids here when you can't rely on having water to shower. I wish the workplace were better.

The key broke the first time we entered the room, and the receptionist reacted rudely, as if we'd committed a felony. We had to pay for it, and there wasn't even a spare. We left after one night. The hotel is old and run down, with lots needing repair. Things break as soon as you touch them, or are broken already. For the price, that might have been acceptable if the service weren't so bad. Avoid this place, there are better options.
