Hotel Alcaldeza

The location was convenient for where I needed to go, just a walk away, but the hotel was still a terrible choice. The sink leaked, the room was dusty, and I had to use my own sheets. They don't clean the rooms, and everything needs fixing before they rent the place out. I wouldn't recommend it.

I have never felt so disrespected at a hotel as I did at HOTEL ALCADEZA. The owner's son was involved, and after I had already spent 20 minutes explaining the serious problems from my previous stay and giving the owner and team a chance, the service got even worse. The front desk clerk was disrespectful, and the owner was condescending and rude, with no apparent understanding of customer service or hospitality. The location is on a dark back street a couple of blocks from el Malecon. If you come back later after exploring Santo Domingo, you have to knock loudly to get inside because the evening shift seems to treat the hotel as a place to sleep, not to help guests get back in. Cleaning staff make noise outside your door, and several people knocked well before the agreed checkout time.

The shared spaces were nice, and the receptionist was patient and great. But we had trouble with the AC and had to switch rooms four times before we finally got one where it worked.

We booked two nights but left after just one because it was such a bad stay. Our first room had no outside window, only one facing the hallway, so we asked to move even though nearly all the rooms seemed empty. The place was dirty, with holes in the sheets, cockroaches in the room and bathroom, and old, rotted soap on the dish. The mini fridge was broken and disgusting. The supposed garden was just a dusty table and chair. There’s a theme park nearby that plays very loud music, and the hotel does a poor job of blocking the noise.
