The atmosphere is pleasant, and the food and drink specials make you want to return. zona 47 bar in gazcue is across the street from the presidential palace and is one of the safest bars in Dominican Republic. It’s one of the nicest places in Santo Domingo.

The desk staff and restaurant staff tried their best, and the location was the only other good thing. The management was the worst we’ve ever experienced. The hotel and room were falling apart: rain in the corridor, green water in the terrace jacuzzi, no hot water or towels on the first day, water leaking from under the sink, and a broken WC flush. We changed rooms twice, and I’m pretty sure we’d have found more problems if we’d kept switching. The place was quite dirty too. We left the sign out asking for the room to be cleaned for all three days, but nobody did it. Breakfast was miserable: either a precooked egg or a precooked egg, two slices of bread or two slices of bread, and black coffee either way. That was the choice every day of our three-day stay.

There was a bad smell. It seemed like they washed the sheets and put them on the bed while they were still wet to dry.

Helpful, friendly people, and it’s a decent place for a night. There’s a karaoke bar right beside the hotel on the first floor, though, so if you need quiet, think through the pros and cons first. It could cost you a night’s sleep.
