Hotel Shakey

We had a couple of power cuts, but the hotel seemed to have a backup generator, since even the AC kept running. The two bedroom apartment and kitchen were really handy for our family, and the price felt reasonable for the location. This is our family's favorite hotel now.

The apartment felt like home, with lots of light and a nice surrounding balcony. The internet had a few minor hiccups, but I didn't mind and used the time to read and enjoy the surroundings. It's just a minute from El Malecon Boardwalk. Check-in took only a few minutes, and the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful throughout our stay.

The Shakey Hotel works well if you want an apartment with room to cook and stay more than one night. Our place had two rooms, a full kitchen, and two bathrooms, and was spacious enough for a small family. Some rooms face the sea, but the Malecon noise and strong southern sun could make those rooms hot in summer. The kitchen had plenty of equipment, though, as any regular traveler knows, not everything will be perfect. There's also a local restaurant nearby, and LaSirena or National supermercado is about five minutes away by car. With daytime traffic, going at night before 10 p.m. may be easier. The parking was fine, but you need to request a spot. There is protection service around the clock, and I felt safe. It's convenient for visits to government and administration offices nearby. The Malecon passes the main five-star hotels, and there are smaller, cheaper places behind that first row. Getting to the hotel by car can be a bit tricky. The sightseeing spots are some distance away, though Zona Colonial is about ten minutes by car. One downside was a noisy fridge that could disturb sleep. Still, being able to make your own meals makes this a decent place to stay.

The upper floors have a beautiful ocean view, and the staff were super helpful. The accommodation was perfect, though some of the furniture looked a bit worn. It was still functional.
