The welcome felt like coming back to family after being away, even if the trip was only a weekend in Puerto Plata. IL has a lovely spot in the Zona Colonial, and you can soak up salsa, Spanish conversations, hugs, and plenty of culture around the bar. If you love animals, you’ll be in dog heaven there; if you don’t, that area may not suit you. The air conditioning on the premises can be a challenge, though it’s a good excuse to get out and explore Santo Domingo like a local. I left my DR visit feeling happier, richer, and more enlightened for having stayed at IL. 😉🌍

It’s a pleasant place to meet people, with a nice atmosphere and a good location. The owner and the whole staff were warm and welcoming. Herman was especially kind and attentive, and made guests feel at home.

The volunteers were kind, and German went out of his way to help me. The beds are comfortable, and I think paying extra for a room with AC is worth it. The location is great for the price. It would be helpful if volunteers could use the kitchen, or if there were at least a few cooking appliances, and breakfast could have more variety. Those are small details, though. It’s a great place to stay, and I’d recommend it.

Everything was clean, and the staff made us feel welcome. The location was just right too. I had a great stay and would happily recommend it. Looking forward to coming back!

The owner is amazing, and the hostel has a great vibe. They have dorms with AC and without it, and they communicate really well about things to do around the city. Definitely worth staying.
