The Ocean Club, a Luxury Collection Resort, Costa Norte

The off-peak season was a great time to visit. We loved relaxing by the pool and having a couples massage, and the comfortable beds and evening turn-down service were much appreciated. The pool attendants were amazing, too, taking care of everything. Thanks especially to the guest services team and Yianka. It was convenient to communicate and arrange reservations over WhatsApp. All my favorite places to eat were a short walk away, and The Waterfront was the best. We'll return to this little piece of paradise.

Being right on the beach made it so easy to wake up to a peaceful, relaxing view. The Ocean Club always gives me an amazing stay, with a welcoming atmosphere that feels like home and no pressure from solicitors. Everything is seamless and hassle-free, and it's a place where I can unwind and enjoy myself. I can't wait to come back.

The property itself is beautiful, and after we finally got settled, it was safe, relaxing, and enjoyable. We could walk to local bars and restaurants, and the breakfast was pleasant, especially the delicious banana nut bread. The restaurant's food was decent. I enjoyed the salmon and rice, though my salmon was undercooked, so I'd ask for it to be cooked to your preference. Bottled water on site is overpriced, so bring your own or buy it elsewhere. The beach was nice, and the staff were kind and friendly. Helen at the restaurant was especially warm, attentive, and wonderful. I appreciated her hospitality. Getting settled was frustrating. My husband is an elite Marriott member, and we're experienced travelers who stay at Marriott properties around the world. We booked online and usually get early check-in with his status, but it was denied here. Our room also wasn't ready at the official check-in time, so we waited several more hours. The first room we were given wasn't what we'd booked. After talking to the front desk, we were moved to one that met our expectations. The hardest part came after checkout. Hours later, I realized I'd left my late grandmother's jacket behind. We contacted the property right away and were told it hadn't been found. I followed up days later, hoping for better news, but got no response. Losing something so sentimental without any follow-up has left me conflicted. There were many good parts to the stay, but this unresolved situation makes it hard for me to recommend the property wholeheartedly.

The room looked worn, with visible water damage in the bathroom and a mildew, sour smell. It didn't seem like anyone had tried to fix those problems. The blanket smelled sour and had stains that looked as though they hadn't come out in the wash, or perhaps it hadn't been washed at all. I had a garden-view room. The electric blind wouldn't lift, so I went around it to get to the patio. An eight-foot metal bar that rolls up the blind fell from the ceiling and hit the top of my head. I reported it to the front desk, but since it was late, they said they'd repair it the next day. They didn't offer to move me. The shower was also damaged, with missing spray nozzles and water coming from above the shower head. It soaked both sides of the bathroom floor, so I put down towels to try to keep it dry. The next morning I told management I'd be out for a few hours so they could fix things. When I returned, the blind was back on the ceiling, but the remote still couldn't open it. The following morning, as I went around it to the patio again, the whole metal blind came crashing down on my head a second time. After gathering myself, I showered, and the same damaged shower head flooded the floor again. I told management the blind had hit me twice, but they still didn't mention moving me. I went out to lunch with friends. When I got back, the room had been serviced and there were fresh towels, but not enough to dry myself and keep the floor dry, despite my request for extras. The blind was back up and still wouldn't work with the remote. Small bits of wood, sheetrock dust, and a large rock had been left on the TV stand and nightstand, apparently from the repair. I can't explain how disappointed I was by this disastrous stay at a hotel with a luxury brand, or by management adding to my frustration and headache for several days after I was hit on the head twice by the blind. My stay was February 5-9, 2026.
