The grounds are lovely, the architecture is interesting, and the pool is well maintained. I heard the place was built up by a Jewish refugee in the forties. There's a kitchen where you can make your own food and save money, breakfast if you arrange it ahead, and laundry service with washing and hanging clothes to dry on site. Carmello was a helpful, attentive host, and the dogs Napolian and Luna were sweet and good guard dogs. There's construction nearby, though it seems to be everywhere in the DR. The location is convenient, close to everything and a 12-minute walk from the beach. We booked at Casa Sylvie, though I don't know why it appears as Tropix when the sign says Casa Sylvie. The room was plain but adequate, dated yet clean and free of bugs. The air conditioning worked well; the ceiling fan made a little noise, but it wasn't too bothersome.

I came for a week while studying at the Spanish school and ended up staying two. I felt welcome from the moment I arrived, and it got better every day. The other guests, many of whom return every year, were fun and friendly. Carmello, the manager, Juan with his lovely smile, and sweet Maya all made it hard to leave. The price was very good. Corry, don't change a thing! Gracias para todos, mi amigos. 💖

If I returned to Sosua, this would be my last choice. The power and water went out often, and a creepy hotel worker watched me swim.
