Hotel Silvestre

The grounds are pleasant enough if you mostly stay there, with a pool and an outdoor dining area, and breakfast is included. It's right in the middle of the business district and seems to serve that crowd. Just keep in mind that getting by can be difficult if you don't speak Spanish or understand at least a little.

We were charged over $100 USD a night for a place with a laughable breakfast. They tried three different rooms before finding one with few enough problems for me to stay overnight, and we only stayed because they refused to refund us. The place was filthy. The headboard had mold on it, the shower wouldn't drain and left me standing in a disgusting pool of water, and I couldn't control the TV or turn it off without unplugging it from the back. The staff were nasty, too. I'd give it zero stars if I could. A four-star resort might cost less. Stay away.

The bar and pool were comfortable, and the grounds were kept up well. I spent a week here and was very pleased with the room and the attentive service. Everything worked as it should, and the room was clean. I was told the hotel had come under new management in the previous month, which could explain the earlier poor reviews. We'll be back next trip.

More than 20 rooms seemed to be missing from the bookings when we arrived. Four people were already waiting, saying they had reservations but the hotel couldn't find them. Then a bus with 15 more people showed up with the same problem. We had all booked through different booking sites. How can they lose that many bookings? Maybe there was a system glitch, or maybe they deliberately overbooked. At the desk they took our passports and still said they hadn't received our booking. They refused to return the money, first claiming we'd used the room, then saying we hadn't shown up. I wish I could give this zero stars.
