Ilinizas Mountain Lodge

Our guides Javier and Fabian were the best part of the trip, but staying at the lodge was very disappointing. The room was noisy from animals, the kitchen, car alarms, and even fireworks. A window opened directly from the kitchen into the room, letting light shine in. There was cat poop in the shower when we arrived, and during our 11 days our towels were never changed. They wouldn't adjust our schedule either, once when we arrived early and again when I got sick. They seemed not to know the details of the tour they had sold us. Their misinformation cost us our planned rest day, so after climbing Illiniza Norte I had to climb Cotopaxi right away while still recovering from illness. They took no responsibility. After the final mountain, I returned to find they had put a guide in our room and still expected us to pay full price for another night while sharing with multiple guides. Luckily, we talked our way out of that charge. The food tasted good, but the portions were small and varied, and when I asked for more they said no. I’d only book individual mountain tours here. If you want to sleep at night, don’t stay at the lodge, and don’t expect a fixed schedule to be flexible unless it suits them.
