Hostal Mamacucha

This was a terrible stay. The owner was rude, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional, and it felt like guests were treated with no respect. The prices were outrageously high for these conditions. The rooms were in awful shape, with mold everywhere, a constant damp smell, and, even worse, bedbugs. Poor service, terrible rooms, and an owner who seems not to care about guests at all. I strongly advise everyone to stay far away from this hotel.

They treat you well here, and the location is near the fun while staying quiet at night. The shared areas are shaded and cool during the day. I rarely give five stars, which is why I didn’t give a full five here. For a true five-star experience, bring high-quality full- or twin-size sheets. They’re expensive and hard to find here, and would make a great gift for the good people running a good business.

The room smelled so strongly of mold that breathing was difficult. We asked to move, but the next two rooms were moldy too. The hostel is run by Russians who, in our experience, made no effort to communicate with guests in any language other than Russian. A woman kept speaking to us in Russian although we couldn't understand, and there was no English or Spanish. It felt disrespectful to run a hostel in Ecuador without even trying to learn another language.

The hosts were nice, and the common area is really cool. The location is great too, but the place was very, very dirty. Our sheets had sand on them, there was no blanket even though the nights were a bit cold, and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned before we arrived. It was full of sand, and there was no soap.
