A local guide in Cuenca, Ecuador recommended this hotel, and I was impressed from the moment I arrived. The street entrance is tiny and easy to miss. Clever at reception was polite and friendly, and even carried my bag to the room. It was small but had enough space for two, with old-fashioned decor and beautiful wooden floors. The balcony view was incredible, with the virgin of Quito looking down over the city. I could hardly believe how little a night cost, and could imagine staying for a month. The hotel is only three blocks from Quito's incredible plaza. It’s clean and very well run, and the staff deserve credit.

Actually, I’d give it 3.5/5. The location in the historic town is good, the price-to-performance is fair, and the balcony has a nice view. Breakfast is included and was okay. The main door is the frustrating part: the owner has to open it, so you’re left waiting 3-5 minutes each time.

The location is good and the staff are kind, but the rooms felt dingy, the bathroom was far too small, and the Wi-Fi didn’t work in my room. Breakfast was poor too.
