Viajero Quito Hostel

We stayed two nights. The front desk staff were really nice, and everyone here was fantastic. The rooms are basic but clean. We were in 102, and cigarette smoke from the garden kept coming in for most of the time, which was really unpleasant. The food was good. The serious incident happened after dark. At 8:15 pm, we left the hostel, turned left, walked a block, and were going down the ramp to Calle La Ronda when a man with a knife confronted me and demanded my valuables. I yelled at him and stood my ground. He chased me and came close to catching me, but I eventually scared him off. We reported it to police at Calle de Ronda, though they seemed uninterested. I think this hostel is fine during the day, but be back before dark and you'll be fine.

I love this hostel's architecture. It feels like a mansion from the 1800s, a well-preserved, vibrant colonial house, with a magical garden and a tree house. The real highlight is Kate at the bar. She's always full of energy and gives excellent service. She makes delicious cocktails, and she'll play pool, Jenga, or ping pong with you. There are bar activities like karaoke, fruit tasting, Jenga, and ping pong and pool tournaments, so check them out. She's also funny. I shared a couple of stories with her when I was feeling low and tired, and she lifted my spirits. Definitely come hang out at the bar!

The restaurant portions are generous, and the beds are comfortable. There's a restaurant and bar on site, and everything is close by in this central location. A few things were frustrating: signs say there's a guest kitchen, but there isn't one, and the restaurant's posted opening hours are wrong. Cocktails are reasonably priced, but beer costs way too much, over five times what you'd pay at a store.

The restaurant and bar were good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hostel is cleaned daily and has lovely chill-out areas. It's in the Historical Centre, close to the Metro Station. The place is very large, and with so few other guests while we were there, it felt a bit empty. That's not something Viajero can control.
