I used to like Chescos a lot, so it’s really sad to see how much worse it has become. The hot water barely worked, and when it did, it was either scalding or freezing. There were ants in both the bedroom and bathroom, and the cleanliness has gone downhill. Staff mostly ignored my requests for help. The restobar seems to come first now. Loud, bass-heavy, disco-like music played late every night. We came during the week, assuming parties ran Thursday through Saturday, but it was every night. The manager wouldn’t refund us so we could move somewhere peaceful, or even switch us to the other side of the building to reduce the noise. His only offer was a room without a window, TV, or internet. He gave us earplugs and said they should help. He said it had always been a party place and that he’d mentioned it on the phone. He did mention live music Thursday through Saturday, but I didn’t understand that there’d be a party every day. It would have been better for everyone if they had returned our money and let us leave, but apparently that’s not their policy. My three-day vacation was supposed to be a highlight, and now I’m just sad I couldn’t relax and recharge. Unless you’re looking for a party place, I really can’t recommend it.

The view will bring me back, and the spot is A1, right in the heart of the strip. Service can be hit or miss in Ecuador. I rang the bell twice and nobody answered. Beer is pricey, $3 for 330 ml, when a 1 litre bottle costs $3 in most towns. The BBQ wings were good, but the Buffalo ones were bizarre, like turkey gravy and herbs. There were no kitchen staff around then who could explain them.

The food is good, but the service is really bad.

The staff were so kind and friendly, especially Ismael, which is why I gave it 2 stars. The music was unbelievably loud on Wednesday and Thursday nights, going until 2:30 am, and I could feel the bass through my whole body. This place is more nightclub than hotel or hostel. We also saw a man knocked unconscious when someone smashed a beer bottle over his head because he was asking a girl for a cigarette. Be careful here. I got food poisoning from the small, expensive chicken wrap too.

The included breakfast is fine, and there are good views from there too. For a nice sea view, request room 306, the one shown in their pictures. The location is great and the rooms are decent. The Wi-Fi worked well in the upstairs room, but after we extended our stay we had to move, and it didn’t reach our new room at all. There’s also very loud music until around midnight, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Otherwise, it’s good.
