The hotel is small, idyllic, and quiet, with a little swimming beach nearby. The bed has protruding springs, so it may suit lighter side sleepers better. I came for the silence, but the radio was left on all the time. I turned it off at night, then a worker switched it back on in the morning. The common kitchen has no microwave for heating food, and my room had no curtain. With the bed under a window, that matters during bright Scandinavian nights. Please put curtains in every room that’s missing one. The slippers are all one size and dangerously awkward on the narrow spiral staircase, which has a railing on just one side. Safety first, especially at a UNESCO site. I’d rather wear shoes indoors. The floors are sturdy enough, and people also wear those same slippers outside, bringing more dirt back in.

That beautiful park outside the cafe, with outdoor seating, made the visit stand out. The hostesses were gentle and really friendly, and there was a slack line and balance board to pass the time. We also had good coffee and refreshing local lemonades. We went for Sunday brunch and ordered several mutton pancakes. They were a little salty and much meatier in flavor than the average meat pancake, which is exactly how they should be! The sweet pancakes were good too, as was the smoked fish salad toast. The cheese toast seemed to be missing half its cheese, but maybe we should blame ourselves for arriving early and catching the chef before they’d woken up properly.

The summer price is steep for such a small room, though the park around the hotel gives you plenty of space to relax outdoors. The apartments are tucked away so well that it can feel like you’re the only guest, with the staff’s attention all to yourself. It’s like staying in a dollhouse, designed with care and cleverness. The interior is fascinating and inspiring, and the room had a pleasant temperature. We were surprised not to have a single mosquito bother us. A great place to try if you enjoy a different kind of accommodation.

The welcome and care were exceptionally friendly, and the selection of spirits is extensive. The place was really clean, the utilities worked very well, the beds were comfortable, and the interior felt cozy. It’s a fantastic private getaway and well suited to off-grid business events. Highly recommend it.
