Maia made the stay especially easy. She was welcoming, helpful, and ready to sort out whatever I needed, even without daily housekeeping. My room was warm through the winter and had two single beds, a modern bathroom, and a window I could open. There are only nine rooms, so it felt quiet and uncrowded. AiaKeskus Hostel is a simple, affordable option for a short or longer stay. It’s on the third floor, with a coded entrance, near Vaala keskus. The town center is about a 10-minute walk or a few minutes by car. There’s a shared kitchen with a microwave, stove, and fridge, plus complimentary coffee; you can also request use of the common sauna. Breakfast is generous and continental when there are multiple guests, or can be requested in the second-floor event room. Bonsai japanese restaurant is downstairs. No luxury extras, but a comfortable place to stay.

Maia, thank you for the wonderful hospitality! The coffee, Estonian cookies, and clay sculpting class made the stay special. ❤️🇪🇪

The cold shower was the biggest letdown. I got back around 12:30 a.m. after a running event and couldn’t get hot water. It was summer, so I managed with lukewarm-to-cool water, but after such an active day it was really frustrating. Without that, I’d have rated the stay a 4 or 5. The room itself was clean and spacious, with a private bathroom and a shared kitchen guests could use. The furnishings were simple but functional, and towels and bedding were provided. There was a TV, though I didn’t use it. Self check-in was straightforward. The hostel is about a 10-minute walk from the train station and roughly 30 minutes on foot from the castle and center. I’d been told it was a bit out of the way, and that walk does make it harder to pop back during the day. Being closer would have been nicer, though the distance isn’t really a problem.

You can hear a lot through the walls. Snoring from the next room came through clearly, and at 5:30 in the morning there was more hallway noise, with people walking and mumbling. Footsteps out there sounded huge, like an elephant. Trucks on the nearby road were also easy to hear as they passed now and then. The rooms are on the third floor. At least the stairs are wide, and the beds were okay.
