Carlton Downtown Cairo

The area is busy but didn’t feel shady, and I liked it. The staff were super professional and trustworthy, which matters a lot as a tourist. The rooftop restaurant has a relaxed retro feel, and you could spend hours there. Breakfast and the other menu dishes are really good. My room was clean and had air conditioning. The hotel looks worn out, but it’s still lovely and great value for money.

The rooftop was a lovely place to relax in the late afternoon and at night, and breakfast was delicious. I had the best falafels I tried in all of Egypt. The staff were exceptionally kind, friendly and welcoming. I’ve noticed that Egyptians in general tend to be like this, but the hotel team really stood out. It’s a beautiful old building with a special atmosphere, and I was happy to find it and stay here. I’m giving it four stars because the structure, especially the room, felt old and could use renovation. For the price, though, that’s understandable. The location is extremely central and close to many places. The street felt too busy and chaotic to me because it’s in a crowded commercial part of downtown Cairo. My boyfriend loved it, so that may be a plus for some people. I would have preferred a calmer street, but the convenience is undeniable. It’s a great budget option.

The free breakfast was awesome, especially the Egyptian one, which you should definitely order. The doorman was really helpful with getting us cabs, and the front desk was very friendly. The AC in our room worked great. Really cool spot.

The rooftop bar was fantastic, with great service and yummy desserts. I loved the old-style rooms, which had everything you need. It’s a great hotel for the price and has a great location.
