Cairo Pyramids Hotel

Caroline was a standout. She was kind, attentive and excellent at her job. She speaks fluent English and is well educated. She hopes to work abroad one day, and any hotel would be lucky to hire her. The staff in general were kind, and we appreciated the stay, Steigenberger. The location is handy for the (great) Grand Egyptian Museum, though there's not much else around, so it's mainly a base for visiting the museum and pyramids. The food was okay-ish, but below what I'd expect from a 5-star hotel.

Our room was comfortable and had a lovely view of the pyramids, and the GEM is so close. It's the 8th wonder of the world! The meals were great, with terrific choices and healthy options. After 5 days in Cairo, we're heading to Luxor and Alexandria, then we'll return and be very happy to come back. Naveen in the dining room gave us such warm, professional service, Heny kept the room tidy and clean, and Mohammad at reception helped me when I thought I'd lost my belongings. I highly recommend the hotel and staff. Looking forward to seeing them again soon.

The restaurants had a delightful buffet with all sorts of choices, and the pool was a relaxing place to spend time. The hotel grounds were immaculate, pleasant and nicely laid out, making the stay a pleasant experience. The hotel is still expanding, so the spa isn't operational yet. It's near the wonderful Grand Egyptian Museum, but a highway lies between it and the hotel. The hotel can arrange a taxi. Google literally tells you to walk across the highway using the crosswalks.

Our tour guide mentioned this used to be the old Movenpick Hotel. Renovations were going on, so maybe those dated rooms will be fixed up soon. The place felt tired and worn. We arrived just before 3pm and were told to wait "5 minutes", but it turned into nearly 30. We had booked a twin room and were "upgraded" to a suite with a queen bed and a single in the lounge. The balcony looked toward the new GEM, and there might have been a pyramid view too if overgrown trees hadn't blocked it. On the first day there was no hot water, but the front desk fixed it promptly after we told them.
