Magic Pyramids inn

This place was a hell hole. There were bed bugs and price gauging, so I’d stay in Cairo instead of Giza.

We left after seeing the room and booked somewhere else. The hotel is down a dirt street, and getting along it meant hopping over camel and horse droppings. Inside, there’s no elevator, and reception is just a little desk with two chairs on either side. Our room felt dated and didn’t look like the booking.com photos. It had no windows, despite the listing saying two double beds and a garden view, and wet towels on the bed had left all the bedding damp. The hotel name was confusing too: it was listed as “Dood Pyramids Hotel” on booking, but the actual name was “Magic Pyramids Inn”. As we headed out to look for another hotel, staff questioned where we were going, so we just walked out to end the conversation. When we returned to check out with our belongings, they asked what was wrong. I explained the room didn’t have the garden view promised, and they said there was a garden view from the roof. They then told me they knew a hotel with a view. I mentioned the wet bedding too, but got no answer. I walked out and left. They say you get what you pay for at a cheap hotel, but you certainly don’t get what’s listed.

Mr. Hussain at reception was friendly and informative, and the hotel was very close to the pyramids. He was possibly the only positive part of our Egypt trip. The room wasn’t very clean, but good enough for an overnight layover.

The terrace view is amazing, and the breakfast chef was friendly and helpful. The room was clean, but quite dated, and the bathroom doors wouldn’t shut properly. The showers weren’t great either. This place presents itself as four-star, which I don’t believe it is, and the main reception staff were nowhere to be seen. On our last day the hotel had no electricity until 2am. I know the outage wasn’t their fault, but when I asked for extra water, I got no response. On checkout morning there was nobody at reception to take the keys, so we left them on the counter.
