Laguna Beach Marsa Resort

The views from the rooms are beautiful, straight out to the sea and the Bleu Lagoon. The pool is lovely and cleaned daily, and you can walk a long way along the beach while enjoying the scenery. Snorkeling in the lagoon reveals beautiful exotic fish; for larger coral out at sea, there’s a camp to the left where you can snorkel for a small fee. That camp isn’t part of the resort. With the attractive price, snorkeling or diving here can still cost less than at other resorts. The resort is nearly done with renovations, and we had a very positive experience. Food was tasty, restaurant service excellent, thanks to Hazem, and the people were helpful. Our room was good and the shower excellent. One thing to improve is room service: the rooms have kettles for tea and coffee, but they forgot to replenish the coffee and small water bottles. Since this is starting up as a new resort, older reviews were from before the reopening.

The photos gave us the wrong impression. We were so disappointed that the holiday was ruined and we came home a week early. Our room was dated, though housekeeping generally kept it clean. The toilet leaked onto the floor from day one, and nothing was done after we reported it. The all-inclusive food was below average, lukewarm, and the same each day. Drinks were limited to one poor Egyptian lager, while the gin and vodka tasted like paint stripper. There were no cocktails or drinks menus, and a bottle of wine cost 25€, despite the all-inclusive setup. There was no entertainment, and the bar usually closed between 10 and 11, leaving the resort with little atmosphere. WiFi didn’t work in the rooms, and at reception it was painfully slow, or not working at all one day. Reception was no help with our airport transfer. When I asked for help contacting the taxi company, he replied, “What do you want me to do?” The service was shocking, and we don’t want to return to Egypt.

The room service was poor too. I had to ask for towels each time, and they didn’t answer the phone. On arrival, there was no receptionist to check me into my room. The rooms were spacious, but the air conditioning was weak, and changing rooms didn’t help since it seemed not to work properly anywhere. The food quality was very poor, and I had a stomach ache for three days after checking out.

The lagoon by the beach was full of great fish, with lovely warm, clear water. The staff were really nice, and the animators were fantastic, we had a lot of fun with them. It’s one of the cheapest hotels in Marsa Alam and about an hour’s drive from the airport. The food wasn’t as good as at other hotels, though.
