Morgenland Hotel St. Catherine

If you're visiting St. Catherine's Monestary and Mt. Sainai, this is a very convenient place to stay. The service is pretty modest, though, so don't expect too much.

For somewhere so remote, the service was at a high level, as long as you keep your expectations in check. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere, and the rooms were clean, though the towels and sheets weren't quite sparkling white. The shower had warm water. We were here to climb Mt Sinai and visit the St Catherine monastery. Dinner and breakfast were a reasonable buffet, especially considering the vegetables and fruit have to be brought in. I've stayed in other remote places, and this hotel compares well with them.

The room was in fair condition and the service was friendly. We had a reasonable dinner after checking in late in the evening, following the long drive from Cairo, then rested before our midnight climb up Mount Tursina, or Moses mountain. We were here for one night as part of a Sinai Tour, and the tight schedule meant we didn't get to use the huge swimming pool. The lobby has internet, along with lots of shops selling warm clothes, especially useful for people climbing Mount Tursina. There aren't many places to stay in this remote part of the Sinai Peninsular, so I have no complaints.

We'd seen some bad reviews beforehand, and I'm not sure what they were about. We had a fantastic Bedoin lunch here. The bathroom did need a little work: the lavatory faucet was loose and the light over the sink was out. Still, for a large hotel in the middle of nowhere, we had no complaints.
