Hotel Eli-mar

Bedbugs. I called the reception line frantically several times, but no one was at the desk, and I had to wait until 1am. The manager, or maybe the owner, treated me with contempt and annoyance, as if it were my fault and I had no right to bring it up. He didn’t offer help with laundry or advice on dealing with the bugs, and of course didn’t offer a refund. After a long, stressful night and morning trying to handle the situation responsibly so I wouldn’t spread them, I insisted on a refund, and he practically threw cash in my face. An infestation can lead to fines or even closure by hospitality regulators, and it’s the hotel’s responsibility to deal with it for everyone’s sake, not the guests’. The elderly woman who looks after the place is kind and understanding. I’m not formally reporting this because I don’t want it to hurt the other good people who work here, but this man was awful.

Our room faced the street, and it was noisy all night. Very noisy, and there’s no AC.

It’s a cozy little two-star hotel right in the city center, and the owner is exceptionally friendly. It’s very clean and quiet too. You even get two bottles of mineral water each day, which I didn’t get at a four-star hotel in Spain where I’m writing this 😁. Definitely recommend it.

Breakfast was pretty nice, and the location works well for the Camino. At the bar, though, we wondered why we didn't get a tapa with our drinks when everyone else around us did.
