The rooftop heated pool and jacuzzi have lovely views of the sea and mountains, and there are two other heated pools as well. I also appreciated having two towels each, one for the lounger and another to dry off with. It was a peaceful, relaxing week, perhaps helped by the hotel’s older clientele. Breakfast had a great range of hot and cold choices. We didn’t try dinner, so I can’t comment on it. Staff were very pleasant and helpful, especially housekeeping. The beach is a short walk away, but the route goes down a steep hill, which might be difficult for anyone with mobility problems.

Breakfast was a bright spot, especially the gentleman who greeted us so warmly each morning. The hotel is also close to the beach and a supermarket that stays open late, and our room was clean despite the building being older. The front desk experience, though, was deeply upsetting. On arrival, a staff member made an inappropriate, discriminatory gesture toward us as Asian guests. That was offensive and unacceptable. Our room TV was broken, and Netflix wouldn’t work. After two unsuccessful technical visits, we asked to move rooms. The woman on duty was dismissive until the fault was officially confirmed. Sorting it out took over an hour, we had to move our own luggage, and no one apologized. Some employees were wonderful, but the front desk behavior seriously spoiled our stay.

The Christmas Day buffet was outstanding, with quality and choice that were hard to beat. Breakfast was generally very good too, with lots of fresh options, though the tinned peaches and pears were a letdown and the bread was sometimes too stale except for toast. Staff were excellent, friendly and helpful, and the hotel was clean and well appointed. The pool area is lovely, although I can imagine sunbeds becoming an issue when it’s busy. Our main disappointment was the room. The balcony never got any sun, faced a busy road and was too noisy and cold to sit on. The room itself felt dark and cold too. We asked reception if we could move, but were told it wasn’t possible. I wouldn’t stay again unless I could get a balcony that had sun sometime during the day. The other issue was the limited, repetitive entertainment. Many guests went into town at night. Better evening entertainment might keep more people at the hotel after dinner and increase bar takings. The hotel is very well placed for Fanabe beach and Costa Adeje.

We’ve been to Tenerife before, but this was our first stay in Costa Adeje, and spending Christmas week at this beautiful hotel was one of our best holidays. It’s not too big, and the older, adults only crowd made for a quieter, really relaxing atmosphere. The pools and rooms were immaculate, and my wife said the sunbeds were the most comfortable she’d ever used. What stood out most was how much the staff cared. In a smaller hotel they soon recognize the guests, and nothing seemed too much trouble. If someone struggled to get their food, staff would go and fetch it for them. That’s above and beyond. Everyone we met, from room service and kitchen staff to the bar team and management, was amazing. We’d give the service 10 stars if we could. There was evening entertainment for anyone who wanted to stay in, including music at breakfast on Christmas Day. We didn’t book the Christmas buffet, which we regretted after hearing how amazing it was from other guests. The breakfast buffet covered all our needs, and the food from the outdoor bar was lovely and not overpriced. It’s a short downhill walk to the promenade, supermarket and many restaurants. You can walk all the way to Playa Las Americas, and taxis and mobility scooters are readily available for people who need them. As part of the Adrian group, Colon Guanahani is easy to recommend if you’re looking at Costa Adeje, whether booking directly or through an airline package. Travelling alone, as a couple, or with reduced mobility, you should have a lovely holiday. The staff will look after you, and there’s no need to leave the hotel if you don’t want to.
