Atlantic Holiday Hotel

The pool was great, and the lifeguard was really helpful. Staff across the hotel, from reception to housekeeping, were all lovely. Breakfast was fine, with plenty to choose from, though nothing special. We had a sea-view one-bedroom apartment, and on a clear day the sunset view was something else. The two single beds pushed together were okay, if not ideal. We were welcomed warmly, and the reception area looked fabulous. The hotel itself felt a little worn, with small gaps between floor panels and chipped stair finishes. Our room was clean, but bare and very beige. The beds were made and towels changed every day. We booked bed and breakfast; the kitchen was well stocked but had only a hob, no microwave, oven or grill, which was fine since we ate out. We had a lovely holiday and would book again, though it feels more like a 3-star place than the advertised 4-star. I'd recommend it as long as you're not expecting luxury.

The quiet area suited us well, though it might not be lively enough if you want more to do. We chose self-catering because there are lots of nearby restaurants, and hired a car. The hotel's small car park is first come, first served, so it could get busy in peak season, but we found a space without trouble. We slept really well in our comfortable, clean room and heard very little noise. We were in room 233, with an amazing sea view. You could watch both sunset and sunrise each day from the roof terrace. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and already miss the view.

The hotel feels clean and calm, with thoughtful touches, and the sea views are right there as you enter the lobby. We had a one-bedroom apartment with a sea view, and the pool got sun from 11am. It's a good value option if you want to stay away from Tenerife's busier areas while still having buses handy. The 471 Titsa runs from Callao Savalje, and the 473 goes up a hill to the nearest stop for Los gigantes. The location depends on what you're after. It's good if you're happy to walk along some gradient on the coast towards Rosa Center for a supermarket and other supplies. The hotel is modernised and working on sustainability, including solar panels and efforts to reduce waste. Some work was happening around the kids' playground, which wasn't ideal. All-inclusive food was okay, buffet only at this time of year, with no à la carte. At meals you can help yourself to coffee, soda, Amstel and wine. Entertainment was particularly lacking. This probably suits older or smaller families better. If you want a regular kids' club, it may not be for you. The small pool could perhaps be labelled a plunge pool and made adults-only. Families can struggle to find a balance when couples make up a dominant share, though staff are very good with children.

Ants came back the day after the hotel treated our room, and I couldn't believe it. We'd already thrown away the food we'd bought, with no offer of compensation. When I told reception, they said south Tenerife has an ant problem and that the ants would probably return. I've visited three times and never had this issue before. By then, after such a disappointing birthday break, I was too fed up to argue. I spent the rest of the holiday counting down until we could go home. The first night, after a long day travelling, we arrived late to find the car park closed, so we had to search for a space. The room looked clean but was much smaller than the pictures suggested. The beds were about two feet from the kitchen, which felt off-putting, and the twin beds I'd booked as a double slid apart at the slightest movement. The bathroom was a good size, but black mould was appearing around the room. On the morning of my 40th birthday, the kitchen was crawling with ants. We had to bin all the food we'd bought the night before. Reception said a cleaner would come, but after two hours of waiting and calling, we went out for food. At the desk we found out all the cleaners had gone and nobody had visited our room. They said we'd need to stay out while chemicals were used. We had a birthday outing planned, and when we returned about five hours later, the ants were gone. For a while, anyway. I was really looking forward to celebrating my 40th here, and it was such a letdown. A lot of the staff were amazing, the hotel was quiet despite being extremely busy, and most of it was pretty clean. But all the problems outweighed that. The room was smaller than expected, the sleeping setup wasn't what I'd booked, and the repeated ants and slow response were shocking for a 4-star hotel. If you like ants in your room and nobody clearing them away promptly, book here. Otherwise, I'd look somewhere else.
