Sofia at Sofía Beneroso Beauty Salón, inside the hotel, coloured, cut, and styled my hair. She was gentle and professional, and I love the colour she created. Such a nice holiday treat. The food had plenty of variety each day, and our room was cleaned to a high standard daily. With the Star Prestige stay, the experience felt even more special. The staff were welcoming and attentive, and we felt well looked after at Iberostar Waves Bouganville Playa in Tenerife. We had a relaxing time and would happily return.

We spent more than we usually do, but it was worth every penny. The hotel has easy access to the beachfront walks and lots of restaurants. We walked as far as Los cristianos with the hired pushchair on our first day, and Siam Park is a quick taxi ride away. We chose Tenerife and this place because it was recommended for gluten-free food and family-friendly pools and entertainment, and it lived up to that. The food was amazing, the staff welcoming, and the kids club, slides, and pools were great. Evening shows have been brilliant too, especially the ABBA and Elton tribute acts so far. We’d definitely come back.

The food was excellent, with plenty of choice and very good quality. Star Prestige may also be worth it for the better sun loungers, quieter and more exclusive dining areas, and generally better located rooms. Still, the hotel feels more like a three-star place than the category it advertises. It looks dated, and a lot of areas feel tired and stuck in the past, so it could use refurbishment. The location and service are probably its strongest points. Be aware that a “double room” is two single beds pushed together, which may not suit couples looking for a proper double. The building sits at almost a 180-degree angle to the sea, so most rooms only get a side sea view. Even paying extra for a direct sea view could disappoint, since many rooms don’t fully face the sea. The hotel needs updating to match a higher star rating.

The slides were a big hit, and the kids spent hours on them and in the mimetous pools. There was plenty happening through the day and evening, though we didn’t make full use of it. The restaurant had very good food and lots of choice, including a kids’ area for younger guests. Our room was comfortable and a good standard, and the hotel was very clean. Staff were pleasant and friendly everywhere. We had a great stay and would thoroughly recommend it to families with children. We’d stay again.

Dani was the highlight of our trip. He was fun, kind, polite, and inclusive, and remembers guests while checking in on them through the day. He got me to try archery for the first time, and after three days I aced it. He also hosts Bingo and the kids’ mini disco. The Bingo host on 25th May was entertaining and fun, with a lovely singing voice. My son won that day, which made it extra special. The marine facial was relaxing and therapeutic, and Lucia was thoroughly professional. I enjoyed the massage and the music. You can book ahead, as they open by 10 am. The weather was calm, without scorching heat. The pools were busy but manageable for off-peak season, and lift waits weren’t too bad. Room 968 has great views, and paying extra for the view and quietness was worth it. We were half board, which suited us between a heavy lunch and dinner. On checkout day, we paid for lunch at the poolside snacks bar, an economical option Martha at reception recommended. The one odd thing was that half board guests weren’t allowed water at breakfast or lunch. I understand the soft drinks rule, but I hope management allows water refills, especially with filling stations around the property. Luggage storage after checkout helped, reception stayed efficient while very busy, and towels can be loaned for 20 euro each. We didn’t visit the beach, though there’s direct access. There were plenty of English TV channels and we could switch the audio to English. A good stay with great facilities, and special mention to the pizzas and Hashbrowns!
