We stayed for 20 days as a couple with small children, and I couldn’t have asked for more. The owners welcomed us and explained how all the electrical systems worked. There are outlets throughout the house, and it has everything you need: an open-plan living room with a charming kitchenette and island counter, a sofa and coffee table, two bathrooms, one with a shower, and a laundry room with an indoor drying rack. It’s well ventilated, so clothes dry quickly. The two bedrooms have comfortable double beds, wardrobes, and a single bed, and a travel cot is available on request. We also found two high chairs in the kitchen, which made serving meals to the children easier. All the windows except those in the bathrooms look out to the ocean. They’re modern double windows, the famous Vasistas, and can be closed for a quiet night. That helps keep out the usual weekend chatter from the few people strolling along the promenade. The house is right on the seafront, on a lovely promenade that’s easy to explore day or night. Depending on the time, you can see a gorgeous gulf of clear water where brave swimmers take on the currents, or a starry sky reflected in the sea. The steps from the promenade are a great way into the water for snorkeling, and there’s lots of marine life to see. In the morning, the waves wake you, along with the sight of fishermen resting peacefully on the flat rocks below as they catch fish. There are easy access points along the promenade to the slightly rocky, gently sloping water, plus a lovely, comfortable beach that stretches out at high tide. A few charming bars, pubs, and restaurants line the promenade. Parking is usually within walking distance, or, if you’re unlucky, within a hundred meters in one of the many free spaces. Arinaga is a charming town with lots of little parks for children, many close to the house. Supermarkets and grocery stores are nearby, and there’s a well-stocked pharmacy 30 meters away, which came in handy when the little ones were unwell. I’ll be back. Thanks and best wishes to Mrs. America!
