Can Guinau

Can Guinau made a lovely place to celebrate our 30th birthday. We spent the weekend playing board games by the fireplace and sharing stories and laughs over a calçotada. The house feels like home, with thoughtful details inside and a large, well-kept garden outside. There’s also a basketball court, a soccer court, a pool and a covered porch with a barbecue for rainy weather. Marta was attentive throughout and made everything easy. We’d definitely come back.

The setting would be idyllic if it weren’t for the livestock trucks being cleaned across the garden, which left a pretty unpleasant smell for much of the day. Planes are also landing and taking off all day, closer than you might expect. The house itself is very nice, as other reviews say. What those reviews don’t mention is the lack of privacy. We rented the whole house as a family, expecting the upstairs to be empty, but people were there all day, opening windows and hanging laundry. Their dog even came over during our barbecue. It really disrupted our stay.

The rooms are really spacious, especially the kitchen, which worked perfectly for family meals. We also asked for catering, and the food was fantastic. The outdoor spaces were a highlight too, with a huge children's play area and a fenced saltwater pool. It's pet-friendly as well. We got a warm welcome at check-in and heard a little about the house's history. A wonderful country house.

The big house has lovely indoor and outdoor spaces for a weekend with family or friends, but we were disappointed that the people living upstairs weren’t mentioned before we booked. They opened and closed windows and curtains, hung laundry out to dry and later took it down, all overlooking the shared areas. On our barbecue day, they opened a gate so their pet could come over. We felt watched the whole time, with no real privacy or sense of having the place to ourselves. There’s also a warehouse beside the house where animal transport vehicles are cleaned. We wish we’d been told about these things before arriving. If we’d known, we wouldn’t have rented it. If you want a whole house without sharing, this isn’t the place. Guests should be told both the good and the bad so they don’t feel misled when they get there.
