It felt more like an elderly home than a hotel. The minibar was empty, and there wasn’t proper soap in the bathroom. Cleanliness was only average. I also didn’t get the room I was supposed to, and the noise was awful. You could hear everything happening next door. The location was the only good thing.

I’d been hoping for ages to stay at this charming old hotel on a lovely historic plaza, and finally got the chance. It was even better than I’d hoped. The staff were lovely, my room was cute, and the whole stay felt magical. Go if you get the chance!

There are plenty of cafés and bars just a short walk away. The hotel itself is great, and its spot beside University of Alcalá is hard to beat.

The classical look of the rooms works well, and the showers are really good. The price is reasonable for what you get, especially with this location: step outside and Alcala University’s striking façade is on your right, while Plaza de Cervantes is behind the hotel.

My mom stayed in the apartment Señora Cornelia when she came to visit, and she loved how relaxed and looked after she felt. There also seemed to be someone at reception who spoke English whenever you needed help. The window was the one frustration. Its right side sometimes came loose when opened, and it could be hard to shut again. There’s also a bell that rings every 15 minutes, clearly audible with the windows open. Still, the apartment is right on plaza Cervantes, in the middle of the city and historic campus, so the location is hard to top.
