Hotel BelleVue Lagomonte

For a last-minute bargain, this gave us what we needed, and we had a cheap holiday. You get what you pay for, so don’t get hung up on little things, just enjoy the memories. The hotel is close to amenities and the beach, with a couple of strips of shops for bits and car hire nearby. The area has some history, and the lovely old town is about a 40-minute walk away. The staff were supportive, always smiling and happy. Our room suited us and worked well for our infant, including baby meals prepared for us. The cot was a bit worn, so I brought my own bedding. The air conditioning was great. I rented a kettle for £$15 for the week, which let me make tea, coffee and baby bottles in the room. They also let us keep medication in the reception fridge. There are food, pools and sun, and a free beach shuttle every 20 minutes until 6 pm. I’m not a drinker, but the few cocktails I had were great. The driver, peter, was amazing.

We upgraded to a pool-view room, and it was a great decision. We could look out over the lake. The hotel was fantastic for me and my family, with entertainment through the day and friendly, accommodating staff. The animation team were brilliant with the kids. Edu, Francisco, Miriam, Danny, Veronika and Nichole were fantastic. The safety setup worried me most. At meal times, the gate from the outdoor dining area toward the pool is padlocked, and chairs are placed in front of the fire exits between the lobby and dining area. That leaves the restaurant and patio with no clear way out except through the restaurant. I raised it with Tui during our stay. They assured us it would be fixed, and the doors were clear in the mornings, but later in the day they were blocked again and the gate was still locked. I think this could put lives at risk, especially for babies, older people, and anyone with a disability. We got no sense that anyone cared or acted on the complaint. The staff themselves work hard, and most were lovely and accommodating. The animation team also put in a lot of effort and put on shows, though I wouldn't call the entertainment excellent. The location is peaceful and fairly secluded, about a five-minute walk from the strip. For the price, I thought it was decent value despite the faults. Our room was small but clean and did what we needed. There was a reasonable range of food, including choices for the children and vegetarian in our group, but some dishes felt repetitive and were cold by the time we reached the table. I saw bacon cooked on the egg and pancake grill without it being cleaned, which could leave vegetarians or people with allergies eating food they thought was safe when it had been contaminated. There should be a coffee machine on every floor: the lobby one was out of order for two days, and we couldn't use the one in the restaurant. There was no kettle in the room either. The walls are extremely thin. We could hear conversations next door and people coming and going, and the doors banging could wake you up.

The pools were nice, and the snack bar was pretty basic. Rooms are simple but clean, with the beds and towels attended to daily. Food was better than I expected for the price, and there was a good range of alcoholic drinks. Local bars and shops are about a 15-minute walk away, while the beach takes around 20-25 minutes on foot.
