Ona Garden Lago

The rooms are a nice size, the hotel is clean and not too noisy, and it's good for families. It's 1km from the beach. But the bathroom and kitchen area looked dated and badly in need of an urgent upgrade. Maybe they were a hit in the 90s, but the bathroom tiles were almost falling off, and the taps and showers had seen better days. It felt like staying at grandma's house. The website pictures left me really disappointed to spend two weeks in that flat, but there was nothing I could do, since they'd had my money for seven months already.

The pool area is small, but it's green and pretty, with lots of sun loungers. There's an employee at the pool who looks after the children, and probably everyone else too, which was really good. The service at reception was quick for both check-in and booking our return transfer. We met several employees and all of them were friendly. Our apartment for five was spacious and had everything we needed, and we had a good time. The hotel was ideal for a family holiday. The walk to the sea is probably 1.2 km, though we got faster at covering it each day. Soundproofing wasn't great either. Sitting in the living room, we could hear water running in the neighboring room's shower.

It's a lovely place for spending time with the family. The rooms are spacious, the kitchen is fully equipped, and the staff are friendly and lovely. There's a great swimming pool with plenty of sun beds, so there was no need to fight for one. Parking is easy, and though it's on the outskirts of town, it's super quiet at night, away from the main roads and the buss of tourism. The beach is a 15 minute walk away. I'd definitely recommend it and come back again!

We stayed nine nights as a family of five in a two bedroom penthouse on the 6th floor at Ona Garden Lago. The beds were comfortable and I generally slept well. The reception staff were always friendly and helpful, and the apartment was clean, spacious and suited us well. The utility area with a washing machine was a huge plus with kids. I also loved the two-storey balcony, with its spiral staircase up to the rooftop, which gave us a fun extra space. The noise might be worth bearing in mind if you're sensitive to it, or bring ear plugs. There was no soundproofing, and my husband and daughter sometimes found the noise of people running along the corridor and moving about in nearby apartments frustrating. Most guests coming back at night were fairly quiet. The apartment is right next to a swamp, and despite taking precautions we were all bitten quite a lot by mosquitoes. Housekeeping felt minimal. Sheets, towels and bins were changed once during our nine night stay, which didn't feel like enough. I'd bring extra towels next time. The kitchen was much smaller than we expected and wasn't particularly well equipped. There was no chopping board, and on the third day we found a bread knife at the bottom of the dishwasher, but there were no other knives. If you're planning to cook, bring a few basics. We kept it simple with sandwiches and easy meals like beans on toast. There are handy food options nearby: a brilliant Eroski supermarket almost directly opposite, with kitchen knives for sale right near the entrance, and a lovely bakery next door for coffee and breakfast. Parts of the apartment were a bit run down too. A wardrobe shelf fell down twice. The staff quickly sent someone to fix it, but it was more a temporary fix than a proper repair. For the price, I'd probably stay again. It made a great base for exploring northern Mallorca, which we loved, though it needed more self management than I'd ideally want on holiday, so I'm not in a rush to come back.
