Getting to the ferry for Morocco from here is very convenient. The hotel itself feels old and well worn, though, and could use renovation. We also got mixed information: before booking, I called to check whether the parking gate was locked overnight and was told it was. At arrival, the receptionist said it was broken. Breakfast was another mismatch, quoted at 12 euros per person at reception, then priced at 15.5 euros downstairs. Staff need to communicate more clearly and keep each other updated.

We'd already paid for breakfast, but after taking just a banana and a croissant, we were asked for another 20 euros. The waiter had a terrible attitude, watched us with what felt like malice, and even tried to stop us. It was a really unpleasant experience, and the hotel didn't feel trustworthy.

We ended up checking out around 5:00 AM because we were so uncomfortable. I'd stayed in old historic hotels before, but this was easily the worst. At Globales Reina Cristina, our first room reeked of cigarettes, so we asked to move. The replacement was dusty and dirty, smelled of mildew or mold, and had cockroaches. Very disappointing. I wouldn't recommend it.

The rooms are roomy, and the port is an easy walk if you're coming or going by ferry. But most of the staff made us feel like we weren't welcome, the beds were really uncomfortable, and the restaurant was awful. The food reminded me of a high school cafeteria; it was so bad I found it funny instead of getting mad. At around 70 euros for a night, it's not bad value, but eat in town.

We booked two rooms for two nights and thought the hotel was nice for what we paid. I liked the patio where we had breakfast, and the 1920s-style decor gives the place a particular look. Both rooms had modern, working bathroom fixtures, and the refrigerator was great. The AC worked, but its ancient thermostat should be replaced with a digital one. Staff could be warmer about saying hello or good day. I'd stay again.
