La Almunia de la Alpujarra

We ended up eating at the Gastro Bar because that was the only option, and paid gastronomic prices despite the place being quiet. There were four of us, and we ordered three starters and two mains to share. One starter never arrived, even after we reminded the staff, and then the mains came out. The meat portion was huge, but the potatoes amounted to four oversized chips, and there were no vegetables despite us asking for some. The staff seemed distracted the whole time and couldn't advise us about the dishes. Service was very slow, supposedly because they were busy, though there was only one other table of four. They gave us complimentary coffees as an apology. The bill was 75 euros for cheese, pâté, biscuits, two ham hocks, one bottle of wine and two soft drinks. Not worth the money, and we won't return.

Really good desserts, and the meat portions were huge. The food was amazing!

The tapas were excellent, and the setting was stunning. Service could use some improvement.

We only stayed five days, and already wished we'd booked longer. The village people were generally very friendly, and Estrella, who helped us, was especially kind. The apartment was spacious, comfortable and really nice. We loved how peaceful and clean the pool was, surrounded by such a beautiful area. It's a wonderful place to relax and switch off from the day and the clock. We'd love to return for a longer visit.
